PLANET IP surveillance solution transmits not only voice, video, but also rescue

Summary

PLANET fast Ethernet media converter and H.264 IP camera facilitate the communication between the trapped miners and the rescue team.

Background Introduction

In Chile, inside the Copiapo gold and copper mine, about 450 miles north of the capital Santiago, a shaft collapsed on August 5, 2010. There were 33 miners trapped 2,300 ft (700 meters) underground. The rescue team and the family members of the trapped miners were anxious to know whether there was a slim chance of survival while all the trapped miners were also eager to ask for help and show they were safe and well.

To connect the communication between people on the surface and underground, IP camera was required to equip to provide some images underground. The biggest challenge for the camera is to combat the serious condition underground –30 Celsius degrees in the shaft, high humidity, risk of falling rocks, as well as the darkness.

Solution / Application

Transworld S. A. was asked to provide a solution after the first camera of another company was destroyed due to the climatically demanding conditions underground. The PLANET H.264 25-meter IR Internet Camera, ICA-H312 and 10/100Base-TX to 100Base-FX Bridge Media Converter, FT-802S15 were chosen for their excellent features. First, the trapped miners could easily have video conference through the 2-way audio function, which facilitate the rescue team to monitor the miners’ life and health condition. In addition, its rugged all-weather aluminum housing and IP-66 protection also make the ICA-H312 suitable to operate in the demanding environment. Actually, the ICA-H312 worked over one and a half month underground.

Furthermore, in order to bring the clearest vision from the dark shaft, the 14 IR illuminators built around the lens of the ICA-H132 fairly satisfies this demand. The built-in 1/3 inch color SONY CCD sensor also ensures high-quality monochrome images up to 25 meters in the darkness. Besides, with the application of the PLANET media converter FT-802S15, its fast Ethernet and fiber-optic interface, which supports distance up to 15 km, also enables the trapped miners to transmit clear images and voices and have smooth interaction with their families .

To monitor the Chilean trapped miners’ health, the PLANET IP Surveillance solution provides complete and thoughtful for the people concerned.

Key Benefit

After applying the PLANET H.264 IP camera ICA-H312 and media converter FT-802S15, the rescue team found ways to contact the trapped miners. It also helps the rescue team care for their physical and mental health while the whole world could also send them hopes at the same time. The PLANET proves that the PLANET camera has been rigorously tested with highly compact and waterproof quality. With the PLANET’s stable quality, it also makes the rescue team’s decision making easier. It is said that it is the hope that helps the miners survive. It’s great honor for the PLANET to have the opportunity to enable the trapped miners to find the hope, which is always the PLANET’s philosophy – delivering right products at right time.
