Background Introduction
Centre for Youth Development, a non-profit association in Hong Kong, aims to promote the community and the youth development. The Youth Centre comprises a Main Block (15 levels above the basement auditorium) and a Hostel Block (12 stories) with a total gross floor area of about 40,000 square meters.
In the Youth Centre, the users were suffering from slow Internet access by using 100Base-TX or even 10Base-T connection. The network connection speed had to be improved for users to be able to access the Internet at a faster speed. Moreover, new property management software was implemented in the new constructed office. In order to cope with the development, the Youth Centre is required to upgrade its Ethernet network from 100Base-T to 1000Base-TX. A total over 500 network nodes are counted in the whole upgrade. Meanwhile, for non-profit organizations, limited budget was vital for them to choose an affordable and reliable solution.
Solution / Application
The system integrator and the distributor in Hong Kong had given pre-sales assistance to the Centre for Youth Development by introducing the suitable solution. In this Gigabit network construction, 2 units of PLANET web smart Gigabit Switch
GSW-2416SF were placed in the computer room where fiber cables were
dispatched to every floor in the building. At each floor, PLANET GSW-1602SF
or GSW-2404SF was used to connect to FGSW-2620, Fast
Ethernet Switch with 2 Gigabit ports.
The GSW-2416SF was the key product in the whole project. It could provide
multiple fiber optic connections and was equipped with web management. With 16 shared SFP
(Small Form-factor Pluggable), the GSW-2416SF was able to provide long-distance fiber
connectivity flexibly and fully met the requirements of high-speed Internet access in the
Youth Center.
